NHL Starting Goalies
- Tampa Bay Lightning -> Ben Bishop
Ben Bishop stopped 27 of 30 shots in Friday’s 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins managed to score a goal on Bishop in each period, but they still couldn’t come away with the win. The 29-year-old has a 21-14-3 record with a 2.02 goals-against-average and a . 926 save percentage
- Montreal Canadiens -> Mike Condon
Ben Scrivens swept the weekend with a 2-1 shootout win over Carolina on Sunday. Scrivens turned away 34 of 35 shots faced, including all seven on special teams. For the weekend he stopped 57 of 59 shots in the wins over Carolina and Edmonton. Mighty impressive for the veteran netminder trying to reestablish himself in the NHL…for now.
Lightning vs Canadiens Preview
11th in the league in scoring, putting up 2.7 gpg, while converting on 19.3% of their power play chances, which is 13th. The rise in the rankings has been due to the fact that they have scored 3.45 gpg in their last 11 games.
They have also scored more than four goals six times in their last 20 games, after doing it just twice in their first 31 games.
Tampa Bay surprisingly rank 11th in scoring, I expected them to be a bit higher but 11th is not bad for a team who struggled when Tyler Johnson went down. They are averaging 2.7 goals per game while converting on 20% of their power play chances, ranking 13th. They are rising in the rankings considering they ranked in the basement for most part of the season.
This offense is starting to heat up and it’s looking a bit scary in the East. They have also scored more than four goals six times in their last 20 games, after doing it just twice in their first 31 games.
The defensive side of the barn has been solid all year for the Lightning (solid defense, better goaltending) the Bolts rank 7th in goals allowed, giving up just 2.3 goals per game, while allowing teams to convert on just 18.3% of their power play chances, which is a 12th ranking in the league.
If you’re looking for a team to come out of the East come playoff time, well, expect these guys to make a deep run for it.
I don’t care about the French Frog Dwarfs, I do not feel like typing about them. Bums 😉
