Both the Canadiens and Rangers are finally surging after starting the season very poorly, but one must come to an end tonight. And you know it will in this Original Six Matchup. And of course since there are no more ties in the NHL.
With Sean Avery making his return to the Rangers line up, it should give the Rangers a lift, while pleasing the fans at Madison Square Garden. And putting him into the lineup against a Canadiens team who is currently on a four game winning streak, will show the noted agitator is needed.
The Rangers (5-3-3) are 5-2-1 after starting the season 0-1-2. They started this week with a comfortable win over the Sharks, 5-2, and a win over the Ducks in a shootout, 2-1.
While Avery’s presence may provide an emotional spark for the Rangers, the Canadiens are looking to match their longest winning streak from last season, a five game run.
But two of the four wins were over the struggling former Stanley Cup champs, who are 3-7 on the season.
Price has started every game of the winning streak, including last night in Ottawa. He combined a 1.25 GAA during the four game winning streak. After posting a 3.13 GAA and going 1-4-2 in his first seven games of 2011-2012.
As for Price starting at MSG, he posted a 6.25 GAA while losing both of his starts.
Erik Cole has three goals in his last five games, bouncing back after failing to find the net in his first seven games with Montreal.
Right wing Marian Gaborik leads the Rangers with five goals, and four assists.
Montreal Canadiens – Carey Price
New York Rangers – Henrik Lundqvist
