New York Rangers vs St. Louis Blues, February 25th 2016

The Rangers had almost everyone involved in the pounding they gave to the Blues back in November, beating them 6-2 with six different players scoring each one of those goals, not counting assists. However, since then, the team has been plagued with injuries and have gone through some lineup changes and trades. They are also on a road game losing streak at the moment, falling to the Devils on Tuesday. St. Louis, with their own set of injured players and replacements, will likely be hoping to capitalize on that loss as the Rangers come into Scottrade Center on Thursday.
The Rangers (34-20-6) were flying pretty high until their loss to New Jersey, winning seven of their last 10 games. However, against the Devil’s on Tuesday, they simply couldn’t keep up with the best defense of the league, and goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who’s had a hot glove all season long, fell short against the sting of the Devils. While there is a good chance Thursday’s game against the Blues will be a low-scoring one, look for Lundqvist to redeem himself and bounce back against the Blues’ offense.
The Blues (35-18-9) have struggled on offense and have been peppered with injuries lately, but their big chance to do well against the Rangers is with the return of goaltender Jake Allen, who will start in his first game since January 8, after Brian Elliot suffered an injury against the Sharks on Monday. After relieving Elliot on Monday, Allen made 15 saves, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does coming in fresh for the Rangers.
Starting Goalies Tonight
- New York Rangers -> Henrik Lundqvist
Henrik Lundqvist allowed four goals on 35 shots in a 5-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Lundqvist hadn’t faced more than 22 shots in each of his last three starts, so the Devils’ strategy of putting a lot of rubber on net seems to have been a good one. The Rangers went into the second period with a 2-1 lead but Lundqvist was beaten twice in the second frame and once in the third. He is the owner of a 29-16-4 record, a 2.31 goals-against-average and a .922 save percentage
- St. Louis Blues -> Jake Allen
Jake Allen stopped 15 of 17 shots in a 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks Monday night. This served as Allen’s return from a knee injury, but that wasn’t the initial plan. The Blues started the contest with Allen on the bench, but Brian Elliott departed midway through the first period with a lower-body injury.
