NHL Starting Goalies
- New York Rangers -> Henrik Lundqvist
Henrik Lundqvist coasted to his 24th win of the season on Thursday night, needing just 16 saves to tame the Wild. The Rangers won 4-2 as The King got back into the win column after a loss to the Devils earlier this week. He is 24-14-4 with a 2.42 goals against average and .921 save percentage.
The King is 8-13 with a 2.60 goals against average on the road, and against the Flyers in his career he’s gone 29-17 with a 2.45 goals against average.
- Philadelphia Flyers -> Steve Mason
Steve Mason steered the Flyers over the Predators on Thursday night, making 37 saves to lead his team to a 6-3 victory. The Predators fired more than double the amount of shots the Flyers managed, but Mason was a workhorse and secured the two points himself. Mason is now 12-12-6 this season and has won two straight games
Rangers vs Flyers Preview
To no surprise the Rangers rank 5th overall in scoring netting 2.9 goals per game, however they have struggled on the power play, converting on just 16.7% of their chances, which ranks 26th.
On defensive side of the ice the Rangers rank 13th in goals allowed, giving up just 2.6 goals per game, while allowing teams to convert on 21.8% of their power play chances, giving up just 2.6 goals per game, while allowing teams to convert on 21.8% of their power play chances, ranking 26th.
As I mentioned earlier in the week, despite the numbers the Flyers are finally racking up the goals. Their recent offensive outburst now has them ranking 23rd overall in scoring, potting 2.4 goals per game, while they have converted on 18.6% of their power play chances, which is right in the middle of the league, ranking 15th.
At the defensive side of the ice, surprisingly the defense is playing well and their backbone Steve Mason has been a brick wall between the pipes. The Flyers are 14th in goals allowed, giving up 2.6 goals per game, while allowing teams to convert on 21.8% of their power play chances, ranking 25th in the league.
