- Buffalo Sabres -> Chad Johnson
Chad Johnson replaced Robin Lehner Tuesday night and allowed two goals on 22 shots in a 7-4 loss to the Florida Panthers. Lehner allowed four goals on just 12 shots, and so Johnson was called upon in the second period to spell Lehner. Johnson took the loss as his record falls to 12-14-3 to go along with a 2.44 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage.
- Philadelphia Flyers -> Steve Mason/Anthony Stolarz
Steve Mason turned aside 22 of 25 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. The 27-year-old’s record falls to 12-14-7 to go along with a 2.70 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage. He is 2-4-1 in his last seven starts.
Mason is 6-11 with a 2.43 goals against average, while vs the Sabres in his career he’s gone 3-4 with a 2.73 goals against average
The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled Anthony Stolarz from the minors. The 22-year-old has never appeared in an NHL game, however could start tonight against Buffalo.
Sabres vs Flyers Preview
Buffalo ranks an awful 28th overall in scoring, netting just 2.3 goals per game. However in the power play department they rank a surprisingly 6th overall, converting on 22% of their chances.
The Sabres defense is a pucking joke ranking 28th overall and their inconsistent goaltending does not help either. They are allowing 2.7 goals per game and allowing teams to convert on 19% of their power play chances.
In all the years of me watching the Flyers I have never seen this team suffer from lack of scoring. Over the last few seasons, including this season their offense has been a joke. For a few games they appear as the opposing team has a soccer net in place. Then they will go several games as if the opposing team has a mini hockey net in place.
They rank just as bad as Buffalo, 25th overall in scoring, barely netting 2.3 goals per game. Their power play is also a joke, something that has been very strong until Scott Hartnell was traded. Philly ranks 19th in the league in the power play department converting on just 18% of their chances.
With that said, their defense has also been a joke for many, many years. But it appears over the last couple of seasons including this one their defense is actually good for once. Ranking 15th overall, giving up 2.6 goals per game. But don’t let those numbers fool you, when they are on the penalty kill, they get destroyed.
