NHL Starting Goalies
- San Jose Sharks -> Martin Jones
Martin Jones allowed three goals on 25 shots in a 3-2 loss to Anaheim on Tuesday. Jones, like the Sharks, has been seriously on fire of late and the loss snaps a streak of eight straight games where he either won or took just an overtime loss. He’s 23-14-3 so far in his first full season as a number one starter and has a 2.40 GAA and .914 save percentage to go with that record in 41 games.
- St. Louis Blues -> Brian Elliott
Brian Elliott stopped all 16 shots he faced in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over the Nashville Predators. This was a solid goaltending duel between Elliott and Predators goalie Pekka Rinne. Elliott has an 11-6-5 record with a 2.13 goals-against-average and a .928 save percentage this season
Sharks vs Blues Preview
Brian Elliott is back to his brick wall like form. He has stopped 108 of 112 shots for a .964 save percentage, earning his first shutout of the season in Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Nashville.
Elliott holds a 1.48 goals-against average and .955 save percentage in six starts since January 16th, when he led St. Louis to a 4-3 win over Montreal with 46 saves. The most since Curtis Joseph’s 46 on April 11, 1993.
It’s going to be a very tough decision for head coach Ken Hitchcock to make when Jake Allen comes back from injury.
As for Martin Jones, he went 7-0-1 with a 1.96 goals against average during San Jose’s point streak, but he surrendered three goals on 25 shots against Anaheim. He was due to break down at some point, all goaltenders go through it.
