St. Louis Blues vs Anaheim Ducks Prediction (2/28/14)
The Anaheim Ducks return to the ice for the first time since the Olympic break when they host the St. Louis Blues. This is the third and final regular season meeting between the two teams, and the Ducks have won the first two.
This will be the second game for the Blues since the break, as they lost Wednesday 1-0 to the Vancouver Canucks. It was just their second time in nine games they were held to one or less goals. The game also snapped four consecutive games that needed overtime or a shootout to decide who won. The Blues have not lost back-to-back games since January 16-18, which the Ducks provided the second loss. They are 17-8-1-2 on the road this season.
The Ducks entered the break on a little bit of a cold streak, losing four of their last six games. An offense that ranks third in the league with an average of 3.2 goals per game was shutout twice in the final four matchups. Due to the break, center Nick Bonino may return from a wrist injury. He’s questionable for this game after being placed on injury reserve. The Ducks are 22-5-1-1 on their home ice.
What a way to bring back hockey with a battle between two of the best teams in the sport. And while this should be a competitive matchup once again, I have to go with the home team that’s coming off of three weeks of rest. St. Louis is traveling from city to city and looked flat in its first game back against Vancouver.
If rest wasn’t a good enough reason to take the Ducks, they’ve also won five of their last six meetings against the Blues. On top of that, they’re 4-1 in their last five home games against teams with a winning record above 60 percent.
LATEST NHL TRENDS:
The Blues are 1-5 in their last six games versus the Ducks and 5-16-1 in their last 22 trips to Anaheim, while the home team is 29-10-1 in the last 40 meetings between these two teams. The Blues are also 1-4 in their last five games versus the Pacific and 1-6 in their last seven Friday games, while the Ducks are 5-1 in their last six Friday games and 24-9 in their last 33 games against the Western Conference. Anaheim is also 41-18 in its last 59 games overall, 40-16 in its last 56 home games and 48-22 in its last 70 games following a win.
The Ducks opened as -115 money line favorites but their odds have climbed to -118, while the Blues’ odds have gone from +106 and has jumped to +108. Pretty much indicating that the general betting public is very confused about this match-up but we are not.
