It’s been yet, another disappointing season for the Philadelphia Flyers and most importantly us Philly fans. I’m used to it, and hardly ever surprised anymore.
Who Is To Blame?
The obvious problems are Paul Holmgren and Ed Snider. It was bad enough Holmgren ruined this team for the next 5 years, and here are the Flyers, still being controlled by Snider, who does not have the slightest clue about hockey or how to run a hockey team.
When that scumbag Bryzgalov was signed it was Ed Snider claiming he did not sign him. Come on Ed, we all know you have been on the hunt for a “top goaltender” for years and we all know you were breathing fire down Holmgren’s back to make the signing happen.
At any cost too. A cost that the Flyers are still paying for, financially.
How about Peter Luukko just getting up one day and quitting? He’s now down in Florida. The obvious reason for this was because Snider was putting the squeeze on Luukko just to get Holmgren in there.
The stupidity continues in Philly.
Craig Berube Blows
Not only did Berube suck on the ice when he played in the few minutes a game he was given, he is nowhere near an NHL head coach. He’s not even an AHL head coach. He stands behind the bench trying to figure out who to bench next. Speaking of bench, he did nothing but puck around with Vincent LeCavalier by benching him numerous times throughout the season.
Why bench LeCavalier when the main problems are with players like Matt I can’t score Read, Wayne the inconsistent deraling Simmonds, Brayden the softy Schenn and Luke the pylon Schenn. The list goes on, especially on the back-end. And it all leads back to Paul Holmgren when he traded Jeff Carter and Mike Richards.
Credit to pulling in Jakub Voracek, but the other players Holmgren pulled in, are a joke. And I knew it from the start.
Where are all my Flyers’ friends who preached that this team was built for the future and going to win? I don’t even have to say “I told you so, anymore”.
Firing Laviolette and hiring a good for a head coach, what the puck?!
How can Snider not see the reality here? The team you built is an absolute joke. Peter Laviolette now leads the Nashville Predators for first in the NHL, or somewhat close to it. Bottom line, Laviolette is going to the playoffs and turned the Predators woes around.
Another X Flyer either going to the playoffs or hoisting the Stanley Cup (Williams, Sharp, Richards and Carter).
Claude Giroux Is Not Captain Worthy
I couldn’t wait for Giroux to get on this team. I was very high on him and now I regret it. I will say this, Giroux knows how to put up points, but he can’t lead. And to prove my point, he wiped buggers on a referee this season, tried eating a Panthers jersey, and grabbed the butt of a police officer.
This is garbage that I would expect Berube to do. BUT, I bet this is all some sort of scheme to get booted out of Philly. Players don’t want to come here and it’s evident that Steve Mason wants out.
Finally, Great Goaltending!
Steve Mason is legit, and he turned his career around in Philly, even with the pylons in front of him, continuously screening him. His save percentage and goals against are amazing considering the team in front of him.
But last night in Calgary, Craig Berube did the unthinkable and pulled Steve Mason out of the game when the Flames scored their 2nd goal. Um, last I checked, the Flyers aren’t even close to making the playoffs, without Steve Mason the Flyers would be in last place, not 4th from last in the East, so what’s pulling the goalie proving? I could understand if they were making a playoff push, but they are not, obviously.
I don’t think Berube realizes the stupidity he does. (Here I go again on Berube). Clearly Mason was being screen by Nick Schultz, who is a pucking pylon, and the point shot went in. Even the Calgary commentators said it.
You could tell the frustration Steve Mason has been showing this season, especially after long time goaltending coach Jeff Reese just got up and left the team. What the puck was that all about? Doubt it was because of Mason, but most likely because of Craig Berube throwing Mason in net when he was injured, and clearly seen walking to the bus with a limp.
The Flyers Way
It’s clear the Flyers organization does not have a single clue on how to run a successful professional hockey team. They hire and fire coaches left and right. And to make matters worse, they sign overrated, or washed up players, to outrageous contracts. Then call them out when these players don’t perform well.
Start pointing the finger at yourself Snider, for once. Don’t go on TV claiming you don’t have any pull in the signings and trades.
Ron Hextall The Savior?
Ron Hextall was hired as the GM and he told us he will build the team through the draft, You know, the way it’s supposed to be done. And he has stuck by his word, 10 draft picks coming up for this summer, it’s going to be interesting on who he drafts. Defense first or offense? Hextall even managed to grab a few draft picks at the trade deadline.
Only time will pucking tell….
