Goalie Mike Smith did not practice today. Head Coach Dave Tippett said Smith could return to practice as soon as Sunday. Smith was run into yesterday by Daniel Sedin, and then hit behind the net by Alexander Edler. Smith had some tests done today because he was dealing with a headache last night. It does not sound like he suffered a serious injury.

Clowe won’t play tomorrow. Hopes to get back in against Anaheim on Monday.
Clowe has missed the last two games with a shoulder injury. He has nine assists in 25 games this season.
Gonchar is expected to take the pre-game skate and then a decision will be made from there. He left yesterday’s game after get tangled up with Zdeno Chara and did not return. He will be a game-time decision. Gonchar is having a tremendous season filling in for Erik Karlsson (2 goals, 19 assists in 28 games).
Coach Joel Quenneville said Marian Hossa likely won’t play Monday vs. Kings with upper-body injury (source says shoulder). Hossa missed Wednesday’s game and sounds like he will miss their next game on Monday as well. This is a big loss for the Hawks, Hossa has 23 points in 28 games.

Letang will miss his second straight game with a groin injury. The Penguins will be without Letang and Malkin tonight vs. the Islanders. They play the Flyers on Sunday.
Out for tongiht. There was speculation earlier in the week that Malkin would be back tonight. He practiced this morning but just filled in for Matt Cooke and did not participate in power-play drills. The Penguins next game is on Sunday.
Backlund has been dealing with a foot injury, no word if that is what is keeping him out of the lineup. Backlund has seven points in 14 games this season, he has had a hard time staying healthy.
Coach Todd Richards says Dubinsky will not play vs Flames tonight. Has had a setback of lower body injury but adds its not serious.
Dan Ellis will miss a week or two with a leg laceration suffered last night.
This is a tough break for the Hurricanes who have already lost Cam Ward for the rest of the season. Justin Peters will become their starter in the meantime. He is 2-2-0 with a 2.75 GAA and .908 SV% this season.
