The month of December has not been too easy for us here at Pucking Hockey. As a matter of fact we dropped quite a number of games totaling some big losses. Regardless though we are still showing a profit with our NHL picks. Not as much as we expected by this time of the year, but it could be a lot worse.
2014-2015 NHL REGULAR SEASON RECORD -> 27-19 +$3,940
As you can see from the 2014-2105 profits line graph above where we started to slide down hill. But as recent history as shown us, since 2010 we have always bounced back and got right back onto the horse. Sure there’s going to be dips along the way, that’s why it’s called gambling. Instead though we call it Sports Investing. Over the long haul (every 31 days) we will show a profit and consistently continue to show them profits each month hockey is in season.

Tonight’s Free NHL Predictions For Tuesday (12/23/14)
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Tampa Bay Lightning Prediction (12/23)
Despite all the injuries, Pittsburgh went 5-0-3 in their past eight games and hat’s off to Pittsburgh in every way. They had every reason to lose to Florida, who are VERY underrated but the Penguins worked their behind’s off like they always do. The call ups have shown that there is talent in WBS on the Defense for Pittsburgh as we already knew and are ready to play -. For now at least – it’s unusual to see rookies handle a full 82 game schedule, usually we see them excel in the first 8-12 games then drop off. The Offense has talent as well but the Pens are lacking chemistry at this depleted juncture.
As for goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury he’s 3-5-1 with a 3.74 in 11 games with no rest between outings over the past four seasons. Jeff Zatkoff, who started 18 games last season hasn’t played in the NHL in 2014-15, is the backup.
However Tampa will be seeking revenge only problem is they will have to do it with out Ben Bishop and that’s not always – well – never a good thing. Although against the Penguins, he’s 0-2-0 with a 4.26 GAA in four starts. Andrei Vasilevskiy has stepped in and stopped 45 of 47 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Islanders on Saturday. Since his recall he has turned aside 68 of 71 shots (.958 SV%). With that being said the Lighting’s offense has slowed down and as I just said, rookies always come out strong then the grinding 82 game season starts to take a toll on their bodies. Much as it’s done with a few of Tampa’s high scoring rookies, something they are not used to.
As for my prediction it’s very hard for me to back a Penguins team that’s going to be missing 8-9 top players. They played well against an underrated Florida squad but that was a tough game last night. Sure Crosby and Malkin are playing but if the chemistry isn’t there with the top lines, I don’t see the Penguins getting many goals and this set-ups a perfect opportunity for Andrei Vasilevskiy to keep rolling. I expect Tampa’s offense to get it going tonight after having two days of rest as where the depleted Penguins team just played last night losing to the Florida Panthers in a shootout – and it wasn’t a game where they were coasting around.
Tampa Bay Lightning -138 ($500) TOP NHL PICK OF THE DAY
Philadelphia Flyers vs Minnesota Wild Prediction (12/23)
This match-up is a perfect setup for Vegas to take a beating. How are the Philadelphia Flyers a +176 underdog? I get it, they are on the road back up Ray Emery is in net and their record isn’t that great. But don’t forget Ray Emery played great early in the season while Steve Mason struggled. Now that Mason is out due to a very weird injury that he sustained during practice, Emery has had plenty time to rest and get back out there. Plain and simple, he will only play well if he only sees 18 games or less a season.
Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux have combined for 84 points and look to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a third straight win Tuesday night. Minnesota is 0-1-2 in its last three games, allowing 14 goals. To make matters worse for Minnesota the Flyers have scored 11 goals in their past 2 games and their offense is finally starting to click. On top of that the Wild will have Niklas Backstrom in net, a goaltenderI use to adore but recent injuries and how he has played forced me to keep his jersey hanging in my closet.
Backstrom surrendered three goals on 30 shots in relief of Darcy Kuemper in the Wild’s 6-5 loss to the Predators on Saturday. Backstrom has given up at least three goals in his last five outings, posting an .880 SV% in the process. Tonight he will face a Flyers team who are averaging 3.50 goals per game in their last six games.
I expect the Flyers to keep rolling but there is one thing that does scare me. The Wild feature one of the league’s best penalty-kill units at 86.5 percent, though it has yielded a power-play goal in five of the last six games. The Flyers scored a power-play goal in eight straight before coming up empty in their last three. But at the end of the day Niklas Backstrom who was once a great goalie, will be in net tonight and he hasn’t been stellar for quite sometime.
As for my prediction I am recommending that you take the Philadelphia Flyers as a small pick. Although their recent play has been great this is a Flyers team that is not that predictable and can go back on long losing streaks at any moment but it is very hard for me to take a slumping wild team at -191 on the money line. Take the value and the Flyers tonight.
Philadelphia Flyers +176 (risking $100 to win $176) SMALL NHL PICK OF THE DAY
