Top Rated NHL Pick for October 2nd 2013
Here it is, our first top rated NHL pick of the young NHL season. We are 1-2 -$135 on the season but after tonight we will be showing a big profit. Before we get into tonight’s game preview, be sure to check out our other NHL pick for today.
Many predicted the downfall of the Red Wings due to all of their veterans retiring but the exact opposite happened. They are adding young core players who have stepped up and made the city of Detroit proud, at least to the hockey world they have. Not only that they are now in the Eastern Conference where they will play weaker teams like the Buffalo Sabres.
Stephen Weiss was a big addition for Detroit in the off-season but just like in the past his injury concerns will be a focal point moving forward. The odds of him staying healthy over the duration of the season is virtually none but his upside could help this club immensely.
Jimmy Howard should be very good again in goal but his defense is one of the biggest question marks facing Detroit this year. They’ve got a mix of young and veteran players on the blue line but there isn’t much margin for error there.
Looking over at the Sabres end of the ice things aren’t looking too good for them. They had very little off-season moves when they should have been the team to blow up and start over. Ryan Miller is back in net and although he can be lights out at times, his fans will be the first to jump on him when he lets in a softie. Which gets the best of his emotions and makes him choke.
Their power play was a mess last season and I am sure it’s going to be the same this season considering this is the same team as last season. Their “star” player is apparently Tomas Vanek but like every other Sabres player, he captured the Sabre curse. Starts off hot in his debut with the team them gradually dropped off the face of Buffalo.
The upside to this Sabres team is that they are trying to take the tough route. I mean they already sent John Scott after Phil Kessel showing they have no class and are willing to do whatever it takes to win. Even if that means sending a monster out on the ice – which by the way can’t skate – to pick fights with the opposing teams star player. But that won’t intimidate the Red Wings. Instead they will just score and score and score.
The money line is too high for my liking it currently sits at -190 and it’s going to just get pricier. So instead take the puck line which has odds of +160 then sit back and watch the Sabres get humiliated in Detroit.
This pick has been down graded from a top rated pick to a small pick. Our top rated pick of the day is in the Maple Leafs vs Flyers match-up.
Detroit Red Wings -1.5 ($100)
