Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers Hockey Betting Tips
It’s Hockey Day in America and I couldn’t be happier. The day will start off with a Metropolitan divisional match-up between the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers.
Philadelphia Flyers Hockey Betting Overview
I for one did not think the Flyers had a shot in hell at making the playoffs this season, but their recent surge, and the down slide of Boston, has given them a shot at making it in with a Wild Card finish. And with Florida losing last night, the Flyers can grab two very important points today vs Washington, who also need these two very important points.
Ottawa has also gone on a recent surge, and aren’t too far behind Philadelphia, things are starting to tighten up in the Eastern Conference when at one point, it seemed the playoff teams were already determined.
Robert Zepp got the call yesterday against Nashville, as he and the Flyers won the game in a shoot out 3-2. Philadelphia out shot the Predators, and I guess had something to “prove” against Peter Laviolette. It was a great effort from the team, and it should carry over into today’s rival. But, that’s not always the case with this, inconsistent squad.
Ray Emery will start today, he is 1-3-0 with a 5.40 GAA in his last five games against the Capitals.
The Flyers have won five of the last six meetings with Washington, including three straight at home while scoring 14 goals.
Washington Capitals Betting Overview
Washington is tied with the New York Rangers for second in the Metropolitan, four points behind the Islanders while Pittsburgh isn’t lurking very far behind in fourth. It’s not confirmed yet, but it will be interesting to see if the Capitals turn back to Braden Holtby after playing yesterday.
When Holtby first came into the league during the playoffs I “fell in love” with his style. I looked at him and said “this guy has got it”. Then the following season he trailed off which happens with young goaltenders, however, this season he his back, and he is playing to his potential.
If Holtby does not get the start (I believe he will) having Nicklas Backstrom – the NHL leader with 64 points – and Alex Ovechkin take the ice in Philadelphia could help the Capitals’ cause. Backstrom’s 29 points in 18 games at Wells Fargo Center – including the playoffs – is his highest total at any road venue, while Ovechkin has 18 goals and 10 assists in 20 visits.
