I honestly feel like I am living in an episode of The Twilight Zone, with these horrible pucking suspensions!
Brendan Shanahan is at it again, about 24 hours after suspending Jordin Tootoo, he has now suspended Mark Fistric. For an apparent “illegal” check on New York Islanders forward Nino Niederreiter.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Fistric will forfeit $16,216.23 amd will be suspended 3 games. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Fistric did leave his feet, there is no denying that. But come the puck on! It was a solid body check along the boards!
But this suspension does not have me as worked up as the Jordin Tootoo suspension. What bothers me though is, why was Mark Fistric suspended and NOT Zach Rinaldo of the Philadelphia Flyers?
BOTH PUCKING PLAYERS LEFT THEIR FEET TO MAKE THE HIT!
Again Shanahan you are suspending one player while you let the other player get out of jail freely…
Maybe it’s because Nino Niederreiter suffered a concussion? Well if that was even the case, Drew Doughty was also injured from the Rinaldo hit, and was out of action for over a week.
I’ve said it before and I am going to keep saying it. The NHL is trying to get softer and softer, but what they don’t seem to realize is, the hitting and the fighting is what brings in a crowd. It’s part of this great game. Sure players will get injured, but that’s sports.
PLAYERS GET INJURED ALL THE TIME IN SPORTS!
