Zdeno Chara hits Max Pacioretty from the Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens game on Mar 8, 2011.
This is one pucked up hit by Zdeno Chara. The puck clearly went past them both, and I can understand a little tap. But instead, Chara delivers a nasty hit throwing Pacioretty’s head straight into the corner of the glass. Knocking Max right out instantly.
I understand hockey is a fast game, I play I know. But, there is a time and place for a big hit. Chara knew exactly what he was doing, did he expect to slam Max’s head into the glass? I don’t think so. Which makes this hit look more serious then what it really is.
If it was along the players bench, what is the worse that would happen? Max would end up in the players bench, and play would continue as is? Yes most likely.
With how the NHL is trying to stop all head shots, this one is just another example of a dangerous hit that can cause serious brain damage. If your going to fine and suspend one guy, you have to fine and suspend them all for hits like this. Cannot favor one guy’s hit over another guy’s hit.
If this is not at least a 1 game suspension, I expect at least a fine.
